Press Release Writing

Press Release Writing

The “press release has been one of the most effective marketing tools commonly used since the very beginnings of the internet. Recently however Google made the announcement that if any news release that has keywords that are used multiple times, keywords as anchor text or links that are not listed as “nofolow” it will be penalized. This sent a panic through the Public Relations and marketing sectors because of the popularity of press releases.

Up Arrow uses principles that avoid this problem however. There are five things that should be avoided”

  • We avoid the problem posed by sites like BusinessWire and PR NewsWire because of the possibility of duplicate content. Instead of distributing over a wire our releases are released selectively.
  • Google’s main function is on keywords so we avoid using many and never use them as anchor text. While using a keyword as anchor text is more effective in most content writing with Press Releases it is easy to find phrases that people might be interested in and link there.
  • Google will penalize you if you include more than one link per 100 words. Our press releases try to avoid links as much as possible so that we can avoid “no follow”.

Press releases can still be used to great effectiveness by simply applying the above principles. Press releases prepared by Up Arrow Consulting are designed to direct readers to your business and information is provided that allows them to easy contact. Not all business benefit in the same way from a press release so we tailor both the release itself and its timing and distribution to the particular client. This allows us to get the most benefit from this particular too and not waste our client’s valuable resources.
